Questionable content!

Ok, I am going to nit-pick a childhood story, not a book from my childhood but one I read to my children. A story that I am looking at differently today.  I know there are many messages in the velveteen rabbit story, but they are powerful. Therefore, if you love the story, just remember it is JMO.

Growing up, most of us were taught that love is something someone gives to you if you behave and are good.

We weren’t taught, at least I wasn’t taught the importance of loving oneself, that was considered selfish.

Our childhood books reinforced the importance of someone else loving us to be valuable.

What all those well-meaning stories did was enhance our vulnerability to life and our relationships. We might stay in toxic relationships because if you are loved, and someone hurts you, you don’t mind being hurt. That’s… a weird metaphor. The “good” kind of love is one that breaks you down until you are a worn out, and a total fucking mess.

Some of those stories are resting in the deeper minds, the subliminal, of a small-minded child.

These stories were read right before they went to sleep, coding the mind.

Somewhere those seemingly innocent stories will play itself out in a relationship, and we won’t know it when we are in our awakened state.

I can remember reading stories to my children over and over and over again. Jeeeeez Louizeeeeeeee I say to myself as I look back. Nothing like driving a point home. LOL

Take the example from the Velveteen Rabbit.

“What is REAL?” the Velveteen Rabbit asked the Skin Horse one day. “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.

“Does it hurt?” asked the Velveteen Rabbit.

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real, you don’t mind being hurt.”

Who doesn’t mind being hurt????

I know I do.

I know it happens and it feels like shit.

I know there are some benefits to the contrast of what I want to feel.

But I MIND being hurt.

Yes, I mind.

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become.
It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept.  (If you’re a table)

Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out, and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real, you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.

But once you are Real, you can’t become unreal again. It lasts for always.” ~by Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit

Love is a natural unexplainable Divine phenomenon that sustains the very essence of us…

Love is a compass within that leads you back to yourself…

Love is undeniable, undefinable…

Love is YOU wrapped up in human form waiting to return to yourself…

Life, love, and people aren’t always comfortable or easy, but it’s an undeniable ride towards the undeniable truth; you are born in love, for love and to love; right out the birth canal.

Self-love, self-discovery is the entrance to the heart where all the shapeshifting happens. ~Dolby Dharma
