So hard to be naked and vulnerable with people. We only show others what we think they need or want to see. Without a conscious action Little by little, we adopt socially acceptable behaviors, facial expressions, voice volumes, and agreeable ideas that harden into a series of masks. It becomes our false self.
It takes guts, courage and the action of awareness to take off the mask and just be who we really are. It’s risky, you will be judged and most likely harshly. Without risk, there can be no known rewards. Learning to take off our masks is a journey in and of itself. Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, she was exposed to extreme conditions Peeling away the layers of who she thought she was, only to discover there was no place like the home within. But there is so much power wearing the ruby slippers.
We have so much to learn about ourselves and thank god we have players in the game of life. If we are lucky enough we can feel the nudge within, the indicator that something is not right and begin to explore the inward call to action. Your undisputed truth. No one on this planet knows YOU but YOU. People have ideas about you, they may judge you based on something that trips them up, but truthfully we will never know because most of us hide behind our mask, most of us keep ourselves hidden for protection. Even the judgers are hiding and protecting themselves. The mirror is always up!
Time to say and live what is YOUR truth. Don’t follow the crowd, make decisions and choice based on what you want. Let go of who you think other’s what or think you should be so they feel comfortable. Be YOUR best self, take ownership of your authenticity and know you will NEVER EVER please everyone so quit trying to be what you think will get you accepted. Accept yourself. You are a warrior, you are courageous and when you think of wearing the mask; STOP, breath and reconnect with the self inside yourself. This my friends can be the single most liberating act of your life performance.
Each and every day I am confident in the value of my authentic self. I am a peaceful warrior taking aim at the peace within. Dolby Dharma
“The irony of life is that those who wear masks often tell us more truths than those with open faces.” ― Marie Lu,
One thought on “Hiding behind our mask!”
Hiding behind masks is second to human nature.
It is defensive and also desire to confirm, impress or the call of need.
